Safer way of importing through post
it is better that you ask your parcel sender that either it get Insured or registered parcel. No pilfrage of goods take place in the insured or registered parcel. If there is any complained about missing articles in the parcel,it is advisable to address complain to the Director(Foreign post) of the Postal department. Also, any dispute regarding missing or theft of postal article can be redressed through Honourable consumer courts.
Faster method of exporting through post
You can hand over your parcel to the Post office for export purpose then the parcel is presented before the Customs authority. Again parcel is re-open for customs formalties.
The other alternative is to first produced parcel to the Customs Authority and get it examined. The customs department will put a seal that it has been passed in the Customs. Then the parcel is handed over to the Postal authority. At this stage the parcel is not opened by the postal authority. Therefore, you know that parcel is not delayed by the postal authority on account of non obtaining Customs clearance.

Hello,
Me again.. I posted gifts (gold/pearl necklace and earings) to India from Singapore on 6th Jan 2007, insured and registered. Total value of gifts were approx RS 8500.
The receipient has yet to receive the gifts. I've made enquiries to singapore post and they told me that gifts arrived in Madras on 11th Jan. The intended destination is Pune.
What could be the reason for delay? Is there a chance the gifts have been pilferaged?
Thank you for your time
The parcel will be delivered at Pune. Therefore, the parcel has to travel from Chennai to Pune. This may be one of reason for delay.
Some times The Customs Authority
may take more time to decide value and bonafide nature of parcel.
In case, if the parcel is detained by the Customs Authority then receipent in india will receive notice .you can track your parcel at link
http://www.indiapost.gov.in/speednet/Track2.htm.
The Indian postal department is very responsive. Certainly being ISO certified ,Chennai Foreign post, will see that your postal parcel reached immediately.
You can write to Director(Foreign Post),Chennai. Now ,by paying DD of RS 10/-, you can seek any information from the Department under Right to Information Act 2005.
Pl donot worry.write to me if you donot receive your parcel.
Hi Ravindra,
The parcel I sent from Singapore to Pune on 6th Jan 2007 has not yet arrived.
I have made my inquiries to the Indian Postal department through SingPost. SingPost have wrote to the Indian Postal department twice over the past 45 days, but they have not replied to either of the letters.
I am hoping you can advice me on how I should proceed...
Many Thanks
Riaz

Hi. I'd bought about 100 obsolete currency notes (of the old Austrian empire) from ebay.com. These are not legal tender any more and only have antique value. The seller posted these on 30th Jan by USPS First Class International Mail. The local post office says that they've not received the parcel yet and that it must be with Chennai Customs. How can I get my items?
